Gray dawn It’s a first-person horror/puzzle game. with a somewhat particular decor. Developed by Interactive Stone, it is a story where The Christian religion occupies a central place, so virtually everything we see has religious significance.
After commenting on this, we can proceed to the analysis:
And deliver us from evil, amen
The story of Gray dawn puts us in the shoes of the Father Abraham on Christmas Eve (what better time), who finds himself involved in a plot of murder charge towards his person because of an exorcism he performed on a child named David, later died. However, at the start of the adventure, he receives a letter written by the same David which seems to be current, which motivates the Father Abraham to try to find this child, and also prove his innocence.
From here, during the Approximately 3-4 hours your odyssey lasts, everything we see in the game will have to do with the figure of Jesus, crosses and any subject related to the Christian religion. This is the greatest particularity of the title, since few exploit this theme to provoke fear or bad vibes. All this while we discover a interesting story
No fear, but psychological terror
Gray dawn It is a game that does not seek to use the easy resource of constantly scaring the player. Rather, it seeks to create uneasiness and bad vibes, thanks to a story and a setting that is as dark as it is depressing. Although there are some sudden and unexpected scares, the truth is that we will not find more than two or three moments like this in the entire adventure. That’s not the point of the game, so those of you looking for more elaborate horror need not fear.
However, we also find times when we do not witness this terror. Sometimes we will travel to another different world, where there’s a little more light and less tension and we’re not tasked with solving a series of puzzles until we can get out of there and return to the nightmare. Now, as I mentioned above, what you will feel while playing the title will rather be discomfort due to the successful oppressive religious context. Beyond that, the terror itself, you won’t really feel too much.
Gray Dawn has puzzles, but not many
The gameplay of Gray dawn It is based on solving puzzles and riddles, ranging from picking up items and placing them in a specific location, to properly activating valves (there are more than you can think of). However, there is a problem, which is that we find very few real puzzles. Most of them only try to insert certain objects, the collection of which is sometimes complicated because they are not marked in the best possible way, in their correct space.
A technical section that could be better
In the technical section we can say without a doubt that Gray dawn falls quite far back. Although graphically it is very beautiful with art perhaps rarely seen in video games, it should be mentioned that it has popping problems, too late loading of textures and quite significant drops in fps rate on Xbox Series S. This taking into account that the game It is optimized for series
Of course, it’s true that a few loading screens appear when you move between worlds, but you shouldn’t worry about that. Since they don’t last more than 2-3 seconds, they won’t be boring at any point, so we can say that the power and speed of the Xbox Series X|S was little used.
Finally, Gray Dawn.
Eventually, Gray dawn This is an interesting psychological “horror” and puzzle game, which translates more into a sort of graphic adventure with dark and depressing touches, and mostly poorly developed puzzles. It has serious issues with FPS rate drops, shattering and texture loading, which we hope will be fixed in a future patch. Even with that, On an artistic level it’s a real treat and I found the story quite interesting, with several different endings as well, to give it the proper attention. Therefore, even if you are not a believer of the Christian faith, it is a title worth considering once the mentioned issues are resolved.
Remember that in Xbox area, we will always keep you informed of the latest video game developments.
Gray dawn
Pro.
- Very successful artistic section and oppressive atmosphere
- Interesting story, plot twists included
- Don’t constantly look for easy scares
Contra.
- Technical section that could be much improved, with issues such as fps drops or popping
- Few real puzzles, and those that exist are not very clever
I’ve been playing video games for as long as I can remember, so it’s safe to say I enjoy talking about them a little.
