According to the latest rumors, an Xbox handheld console will appear this year. The Xbox-Next gene console is to follow in 2027!
According to an exclusive report by Windows Central, Microsoft plans to expand its hardware strategy with two significant developments:
Xbox handheld console
In cooperation with a leading PC-OEM manufacturer, Microsoft works on an Xbox handheld device that is expected to be released this year. Asus, Lenovo, MSI, Razer and many other manufacturers are eligible as partners.
Developed under the code name Keenan, this device will have an unmistakable Xbox design, including the characteristic Xbox Guide button.
The Xbox handheld is expected to be operated with Windows 11, which enables access to the Microsoft Store and PC Game Pass. It should also support the installation of third-party software such as Steam.
Next generation of the Xbox console
At the same time, Microsoft officially approved the development of the Xbox Series X successor console. This next generation is intended to include a powerful successor to the Xbox Series X and is expected to come onto the market in 2027. A successor for the Xbox Series S will apparently not exist.
But it comes even better, because Microsoft also plans the introduction of its own Xbox gaming handhelds and new controller options in 2027 if the rumors are right!
“Our sources indicate that Microsoft's internal successor to the Xbox Series X | S platform has received green light up to CEO Satya Nadella.”
“As far as I know, Microsoft's hardware planning for the next generation includes a premium successor for the powerful Xbox series X, in addition to their own Xbox Gaming Handle and several new controller options. For the time being, these new console devices seem to be planned for 2027. ”
“It seems that the next generation Xbox consoles are closer to Windows than ever, which reduces the workload for developers when porting from the PC. As far as I know, you will continue to offer downward compatibility with older Xbox games, ”reported Jez Corden.
What do you think of this possible strategy? An Xbox Windows handheld from, for example, ASUS and a new Xbox console in 2027?
