Doom: The Dark Ages vs. Doom Eternal: Compare the monster and weapon models in detail! In this way, creatures and arsenal of the two shooter generations differ.
With Doom: The Dark Ages, ID software is making a new, dark path – both stylistically and atmospheric.
While Doom Eternal relied on futuristic sci-fi aesthetics with bright colors and techno-hottish architecture, The Dark Ages deliberately goes back to a medieval-inspired look in which metal, rust and raw violence dominate. This is impressively reflected in the revised monsters and weapon models, as model comparisons from Viewer mode show.
Many well -known demons celebrate their comeback in the Dark Ages – but in a completely new design. The Cacodemon now looks grotesque, with fleshy cracks and metallic armor panels, while the Hell Knight wears rustic armor reminiscent of Roman gladiators. The textures are coarser, the color concept darker, which increases the threat.
In direct comparison to Doom Eternal, the creatures are less “clean” or biomechanically – but more organically, earthy and brutal. It seems that The Dark Ages are more emphasizing the body horror element and giving the fantasy horror a new visual identity.
While Doom Eternal shone with overloaded high-tech weapons such as the Plasma Rifle or BFG 9000, The Dark Ages is also a rough path at Arsenal. Weapons such as the new Skullcrusher-Morgenstern shotgun or the rune blade combine brutal melee power with primeval aesthetics-as if they were made of forged iron and demon bones. Even classic weapons like the Shotgun look handmade and less industrial – but all the more fatal.
Here, too, the model comparison shows: where Eternal shone and flashing, rules in the Dark Ages Stumpfer steel, ash and blood. The weapons are more massive, angular and work, as if they belonged to a dark fantasy universe-perfectly tailored to the new setting.
