Bandai Namco Entertainment is developing a new in-house engine to produce big games.
Bandai Namco Studios has announced the production of an all-new in-house engine. With the new Bandai engine, the company wants to break away from its dependency on other companies and no longer rely on the Unreal Engine or Unity in the future, for example.
In a conversation with automaton-media said Katsuuke Horiuchi, Bandai Namco Studios Engine Unit Director.
“The reason for in-house production is that we still want to have the technological capability to build a solid foundation ourselves, rather than leaving the foundation to other companies’ game engines,” Horiuchi said.
“I think the development was decided around 2018. First of all, it was a principle to only prepare the runtime in the form of a game framework and develop tools when the space is there. So I was allowed to run for it. However, at that time it coincided with the development of other big games and development was slow. After that, the concept of the game engine was reviewed by several people, and based on this prototype, full-scale development started around 2019.”
Bandai Namco Entertainment has been working on an in-house engine since 2019. When the first games will be realized with this new technology is still in the stars.
