A story prior to Lake’s main game is the forthcoming prequel DLC Season’s Greetings.
Today, developer Gamious and publisher Whitethorn Games unveiled the announcement trailer for Season’s Greetings: a Christmas-themed DLC prequel to the hit and relaxing postman game Lake.
In Season’s Greetings, players take on the role of Thomas Weiss, the father of Lake’s protagonist Meredith Weiss. The story takes place during the holiday season of 1985, the year before the original Lake game.
“We can’t wait for players to dive back into Lake’s world, which could look even prettier with a layer of snow and lots of Christmas lights,” said Jos Bouman, Creative Director at Gamious. “As far as we know, Season’s Greetings may be the first game that not only adds a visual layer to make it a ‘Christmas game,’ but is built from the ground up to allow players to play a game in the true spirit of Christmas can experience. With the annual bombardment of Christmas music and movies, we think it’s time to add a Christmas play to this tradition!”
“Players also don’t have to worry that the Lake ending they choose won’t be compatible with Season’s Greetings, since the prequel takes place nine months before the events of Lake,” adds Bouman.
Season’s Greetings offers the same relaxing gameplay as Lake. Many familiar faces make an appearance in this new chapter, but it also introduces five entirely new characters to the town of Providence Oaks, each with their own little story. Changing Meredith’s perspective to her father, Thomas, gives players a new perspective on the relationship between Meredith and her parents.
Players will also learn about some of the unanswered questions raised in Lake, learn about life in Providence Oaks and its residents, and the positive role a lovable postman can play in all sorts of small-town drama.
In Lake, players travel back to 1986 and take on the role of 40-year-old Meredith, who leaves her fast-paced city life behind and returns to her quiet, rural hometown.
During her two-week stay in the beautiful lake community of Providence Oaks, Oregon, she will fill in for her father – the local postman – where they will not only deliver letters and packages to friendly faces new and old, but also rekindle old friendships and make new ones and maybe even find a romance.
At the end of her vacation, will Meredith return to the big city, or will she choose a different path in life? It’s up to players to steer the story as they see fit in this interactive slice-of-life game.
