In recent years, Disney has had more and more influence on the gaming industry, a course that it is sticking to.
Recently, Disney has increasingly expanded its presence in the gaming industry, for example by granting licenses for the major brands Marvel, Star Wars and Indiana Jones. And Disney doesn’t seem to have had enough of the gaming industry yet.
After the company announced its intention to invest $1.5 billion in Epic Games shares in February, Variety is now saying that Disney Games’ management team is being expanded. This goes hand in hand with promotions and the recruitment of new recruits.
Sean Shoptaw from Disney Games has been promoted to Executive Vice President of this division and Marvel Games boss Jay Ong is now responsible for the Global Licensing department. Ong will be succeeded by Haluk Mentes, who previously headed the portfolio strategies and business development department.
In addition, the former Chief Development Officer of Blizzard Entertainment, Ray Gresko, is brought on board as VP of Product and Development. He will work closely with Epic Games on the collaborations announced in February, joining Bjorn Tornqvist, who moved from Ubisoft Massive to Disney Games last fall. Ong, Gresko and Tornqvist all report directly to Shoptaw, according to Variety.
Disney’s new leadership hopes to be ideally positioned in the gaming world and leverage the medium for world-class storytelling, said Tasia Filippatos, president of Disney Consumer Products.
