This modder always wanted to have his PlayStation 1 with him – and simply converted it into a handheld!
As Florida-based modder YveltalGriffin shared online, you can do a lot with an old PlayStation like this. He converted the PS1 into a handheld and named it PS Hanami.
Instead of relying on emulators, YveltalGriffin put together the PS handheld from parts of an old console that contained a lot of hot glue, according to the modder. The hobbyist also showed how all the technology fits into the handheld.
He promptly cut the PS1 motherboard into two parts so that it could fit in the case. YveltalGriffin then rewired the two halves as well as all other components.
Despite components from the DualShock controller, the PS1 conversion did without the analog sticks, although the handheld can at least vibrate diligently. The hobbyist also had to leave out the volume control and cooler for reasons of space, which is why the handheld has one major drawback: it gets very hot after a while.
The audio and video quality of my portable devices is very important to me. That’s why the PS Hanami features powerful stereo speakers and a Shinobi Scaler* with GBS control for pixel-perfect 480p VGA.
