Starting this week, Xbox Insiders, starting with Alpha Skip Ahead users on Xbox consoles and users who participated in the PC Gaming Preview on Windows PC and handheld devices, can preview an updated Friends and Followers experience! With updated relationships and new privacy and notification settings, you can manage your Xbox social experiences the way you want, from any device.
Friends and followers
We’re excited to announce the return of friend requests! Now you can easily send, accept, or delete friend requests, making it easier to connect with others. Friendships are now a two-way, invite-approved relationship, giving you more control and flexibility. However, following someone remains a one-way connection, so you can stay up to date with what they share, whether it’s another player, another club, or another game.
Getting started is easy
Existing friends and followers will automatically update with this change. You’ll remain friends with people who previously added you as a friend, and continue to follow anyone who hasn’t.
To start managing your friends and followers on Xbox consoles, press the Xbox button to open the guide and go to the People tab. Here you can find all your existing friends in the Friends list, accept (or delete) new friend requests, or find someone new and send a friend request yourself.
It’s just as easy to do from any device you already use! From Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, handheld devices and the rest of your devices, you’ll always be close to your friends.
Manage your social experience
With these updates, we’re also adding new privacy and notification settings so you can decide who can send you friend requests or follow your account and what notifications you receive.
You can manage who can send you friend requests or follow your account right from your Xbox console. To do so, go to Settings > Account > Data protection and online security > Xbox Privacyand then select View and adjust details > Friends, Followers & Clubs to adjust your settings. You can also manage your notification settings on Xbox consoles via Settings > Settings > Notifications.
In addition, you can manage your preferences online by going to Data protection and online security and log in. Here you can adjust all your privacy settings and then select Submit when you’re done.
