Nintendo has explained why the transmission of the Gamechat screen of the Nintendo Switch 2 has such a low resolution.
A new gamechat function was presented during the presentation of the Nintendo Switch 2. With it, the players can share their screen with friends and also start a transfer of themselves with the corresponding camera.
However, this did not look particularly great in the presentation and was particularly noticeable due to a low frame rate and pixelated resolution.
As Nintendo explains, it is so intended. Takuhiro Dohta, Hardware Director of the Nintendo Switch 2, explained that the gaming experience and the quality of the current game should not be disturbed.
Dohta said: “Of course the chat should run and work at the same time with the game. But we also think it is important that he does not bother the current game. So we definitely wanted to make sure that the game chat is running in parallel to the game without the gaming experience or quality being affected in any way.
According to the technical director Tetsuya Sasaki, one wants to make sure that all players have the same experience.
Sasaki said: “Nintendo attaches great importance to the quality of the service for everyone. If someone is in a better environment, he will of course also achieve better results, but above all we wanted to make sure that people have the same field or an even experience. And I think that was our priority as an entertainment company.”
“And the other aspect is that we want to ensure that enough energy is reserved for the games themselves. So we have a smaller area in which we can play around to ensure that all these different aspects such as the network environment and connectivity fit in. And so we have come across a good, even experience within this scope in which we have to work.”
