Last month, all Xbox owners were able to try it out No man’s skyis a free Omega Expedition regardless of owning it No man’s sky or not. We were thrilled to welcome so many new travelers to our friendly community. This month we’re excited to show all new players what veteran players can expect through regular updates: We’re unveiling the Orbital update, available to existing owners to download for free today.
Orbital focuses on an area of the game that has remained largely unchanged since then No man’s sky released on Xbox five years ago. It’s an aspect that every player encounters almost every time they embark on a new adventure – the ubiquitous space stations!
Space stations have always been a lively and frequently visited part of every room No man’s sky Star system and are a busy destination for trading, equipment upgrades, missions, fast travel across the universe and to ingratiate yourself with the locals.
The first thing you notice about these news channels is their size. They appear larger and larger on your spaceship as you approach the docking entrance. Second, their procedurally generated appearance means that one rarely encounters the same shape twice. As the docking sequence begins, the large, cavernous runway you cross suggests a much larger interior space than before, again with a wide variety of layouts.
One of the new additions to the space station map that travelers will undoubtedly head towards is the Shipbuilder. For some time now, players have dreamed of the opportunity to create their own spaceships in the configuration of their dreams. This new feature allows you to combine parts of salvaged ships together in a nearly unlimited number of permutations to create entirely new form factors. However, you may still need to scour the universe for the perfect S-Class!
The envoys of the three universe guilds – Merchant, Mercenary, Explorer – regularly visit the new space stations and it is always worth paying them a visit. Your reputation with the guilds can be increased by donating interesting artifacts from your travels, and higher reputation unlocks increasingly higher gifts, cheap supplies and discounts, from free ammo and fuel to powerful equipment upgrades.
Orbital is also introducing the concept of “Intervention Events” as part of freighter expeditions. Frigates that you have sent on lucrative missions to the far corners of the universe can now request further instructions during the journey or even ask you to come to their destination to help them achieve their goal.
As with everything No man’s sky In addition to free updates, Orbital offers a whole range of other major and minor additions and improvements. It’s available to download for free starting today for all existing Xbox and Game Pass owners. Our journey continues.
