XCOM fans need strong nerves right now: Jake Solomon states that he is not yet working on a new XCOM game for Firaxis Games.
In a recent interview with VGC, Jake Solomon, director of XCOM: Enemy Unknown and XCOM 2, stated that he is not currently working on a new part of the XCOM series.
He is aware that the fans are dying for a sequel. However, he is currently busy working on Marvel Midnight Suns.
“I personally don’t have any information on that at the moment and I’m saying that because I was really working on the Abbey outfits and Morbius recolor yesterday so I’m not working on that,” he said. “I have no secret agenda, I know nothing about XCOM at this point.”
It can therefore be assumed that Firaxis Games will demand patience from the fans. It’s been six years since the XCOM 2: War of the Chosen expansion was released. According to Solomon, the brand has not been written off, he emphasized in another one last year interview
“As long as I live, as long as Firaxis lives, XCOM is… I won’t even say it’s asleep. I would say XCOM is definitely not dead.”
How much waiting time is still pending is completely unclear. While PC gamers could experience an independent offshoot in 2020 with XCOM: Chimera Squad, it has so far been withheld from console gamers.
There was hope two years ago when a PEGI rating for consoles was announced. Since then, however, there has been no announcement. Many eyes are therefore turning with great interest to the “Bit Reactor” studio newly founded by Firaxis veterans.
