An internet connection is only required to install the physical edition, but not to play Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Ubisoft this week revealed Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the next installment in the game series, previously known under the code name Red.
As the game’s listing on the PlayStation Store reveals, online play is “required”. So you have to be online to play. But that is not correct.
Ubisoft gives the all-clear via the official X account and writes that an internet connection is only necessary for the installation. Traveling and exploring Japan is possible without an online connection.

The online requirement at Ubisoft recently caused a controversy at The Crew. The publisher removed the racing game from stores at the end of March. Because of the always online concept, it was no longer playable.
