Elite Dangerous is a huge game that accumulates many players from all over the world. When the Odyssey expansion was announced, this community jumped for joy almost in tandem, as it introduced new mechanics to the game and dramatically increased the depth of gameplay.
This expansion arrived on PC in May of last year, and while in general terms it worked quite well, the truth is that it arrived plagued with bugs and other significant performance issues. . The studio decided to push back its arrival on consoles to work on it, but it seems that it requires much more effort on the part of the studio, something that forced them to permanently cancel its release on consoles
Elite Dangerous will not receive new content on consoles
This information comes from the official site of Elite Dangerous, and unfortunately it’s not the worst. The study confirmed that not only will Odyssey not be coming to consoles, but also that these versions will not receive new content in the future.
It’s no secret that Odyssey’s release was anything but ideal, including the need to separate the console and PC userbase to focus on a PC-only release. Since launching Odyssey in May 2021, we’ve worked tirelessly to improve the Odyssey experience on PC, and while we’ve made great strides, there’s still work to be done.
Over the past few months, we’ve struggled to move forward in the best possible way, and we deeply regret the decision to cancel all development on consoles. We need to be able to move forward in the story of the game, and to do that we need to focus on a single code. We know this news is not what our console community expected. It wasn’t an easy decision to make, but it was made with Elite Dangerous’ long-term future in mind.
