Paper Ghost Stories: Third Eye Open will be released on PC and consoles in September.
Paper Ghost Stories: Third Eye Open, the latest ghost story from Cellar Vault Games and Chorus Worldwide Games, will be released on September 5, 2024 for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
Third Eye Open is a new installment in the award-winning Paper Ghost Stories series and tells the story of Ting, a young girl with the ability to see ghosts, in a narrative visual novel.
Together with their young ghost friend Xiu, the two must face the challenges of the real and spiritual worlds while Ting struggles to find out if her ability is a gift or a curse.
This coming-of-age narrative covers five crucial years of Ting’s childhood, as she discovers how her powers make her different from her peers while struggling to come to terms with her abilities.
As Ting tries to save her family from the brink of the abyss, she must navigate difficult conversations, rescue lost souls, solve compelling puzzles, and secretly evade dark spirits and other threats.
Will Ting be able to handle this power? Can she help her family, her friends and the lost souls along the way?
Competing spirits will ask Ting for help, but each of them has their own conflicting agendas—and they could hinder Ting’s journey as much as help her.
Paper Ghost Stories: Third Eye Open is presented in a vibrant “paper theater” style inspired by the joss paper art of Southeast Asia. From the activities and settings to the characters and dialogue, the story is steeped in Malaysian tradition, culture and folklore.
You’ll visit the morning markets, befriend an elderly monk, feast on Lok Lok and Nyonya Kuih at the night market, avoid the wandering spirits of the forest, and much more.
“From the moment we saw CVG’s short play Paper Ghost Stories: 7PM, we immediately fell in love with their work,” says Shintaro Kanaoya, CEO of Chorus Worldwide.
“We are delighted to have been able to partner with them to bring Paper Ghost Stories: Third Eye Open to life and the result is extraordinary, hugely expanding the ambition and scope of 7PM and delivering a moving family drama told in an authentic, uniquely Southeast Asian style.”
