A Japanese politician is investigating allegations of “cultural theft” by the new Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

The Japanese petition to shut down the game Assassin’s Creed Shadows has now exceeded 80,000 entries and the number is growing daily. Now the numerous “inaccuracies” in the game and countless complaints from Japanese players are causing even Japanese politicians to take up the issue.

Japanese politician Satoshi Hamada is a member of the upper house of the Japanese parliament, the House of Councillors, and has recently joined the ranks of many Japanese who have expressed outrage over the numerous historical “inaccuracies” in the upcoming game Assassin’s Creed Shadow.

On July 11 retweeted Hamada a post summarizing some of the problems. Among them, the fact that some of the buildings have Chinese architecture instead of Japanese, or that a simple servant can sit on the same level as Oda Nobunaga himself.

Satoshi Hamada stated: “We have received the complaints about the alteration of Japanese history by a French game company. We share the consultation below with images. We have also cited a post that we believe highlights the problem with the game in question. We would be happy to receive your comments and suggestions, including specific requests.”

Hamada later shared, “Thank you for your numerous comments on the new Assassin’s Creed series set in Japan. Regarding the above, we have received an inquiry from another person regarding cultural theft regarding ‘Yasuke,’ a black man who served Nobunaga Oda. I will share the contents of the consultation with you.”
