Polygon has published a lengthy interview with Phil Spencer in which he discusses various topics. Without a doubt, Most exciting for Xbox fans is their desire to have a portable Xbox.
When asked how Phil would get the Laptops like the Asus ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go were “more Xbox”Phil Spencer commented:
“I would like my Lenovo Legion Go to look like an Xbox. I brought Legion Go to GDC. I’m on the plane making a list of everything that makes me not look like an Xbox. Forget the brand. Let’s start: Are all my games there? Do all my games appear with the save files I have? I’m going to tell you about a game that doesn’t have this feature at the moment: Fallout 76. It doesn’t have cross-save and that’s a negative point in my current experience.
I would like to be able to launch the Xbox app in full screen, but in handheld mode. And that all my social experience is there. I want it to be like a version of my Xbox when I connect it to the TV. And I want that experience on these devices.
Phil expanded on his thoughts on how an Xbox handheld console would help the company and its developers.
“From a game creator’s perspective, I can create a unique version of my game that covers more hardware and reaches more customers. And I would say that for the players, it reduces friction. If I want to play my console games away from home with a portable console, I don’t want to have to buy just one brand of portable console. Truth? I want everything we do hardware-wise to be great. But if someone decides to play elsewhere today, I don’t want them to feel like any less of an Xbox player.
