According to a report, there is a trend emerging, particularly among European retailers, that Xbox games will no longer be physically placed in stores.
Christopher Dring from GamesIndustry.biz recently explained in a video that he learned from a major publisher just before Christmas that some retailers across Europe were no longer stocking physical Xbox games in stores.
This is due to the fact that the Xbox is an incredibly digital console and the games sell poorly in physical form. Especially for a console for which most people simply download the games, retailers would hardly benefit from this, says Dring. In addition, the margin is often very low, but he couldn’t find out which specific retailers were involved.
This information is of course interesting considering the approaching release date of the new console, currently codenamed Brooklin. This will ultimately be an Xbox Series Recently there were also indications that Microsoft had closed a division dedicated to physical editions of games.
