PlayStation 5 weakens at QHD + resolution

The latest patch for Mortal Shell, 1,000.004, promises a QHD + resolution for the PlayStation 5, but in a frame rate test the higher resolution consumes more processing power than expected.

YouTuber “VGTech” is known for his frame rate tests of a wide variety of games. His latest video is about Mortal Shell, which recently received an improved version for Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5. Above all, the resolution and performance have been better tailored to the next-gen consoles, as you can see in the video:

The new patch promises a QHD + resolution, i.e. 3200 × 1800 pixels for all PlayStation 5 players. But if you want to enjoy a sharper picture, you have to compromise on performance – this is also the case here.

While the Xbox Series X achieves the targeted 60 FPS with ease, thanks to the dynamic resolution, the PlayStation 5 is noticeably weak. 50 to 60 frames per second are not the desired stable 60 FPS, but Mortal Shell is still enjoyable. Occasionally, however, the game falls into the 40s or even the mid to high 30s frame rate numbers. It is of course clear to everyone that such performance drops are noticeable. The YouTube comments are also characterized by demands for a dynamic resolution in the range between 1440p and 1800p for the PlayStation 5.

What do you prefer? A higher resolution or a constant frame rate?
