According to former Technical Director Obbe Vermeij, a possible delay of Grand Theft Auto VI will not be announced until May 2025 at the earliest.
One of the biggest questions for the video game year 2025 is whether Grand Theft Auto VI, developed by Rockstar Games, will be released as planned in autumn 2025 or will be postponed to 2026.
Over Former Rockstar Games Technical Director Obbe Vermeij has now come forward with his theory about a possible postponement. He assumes that Rockstar will not announce this until May 2025 at the earliest.
Vermeij claims to have no insider information, but bases his theory on the postponement of Grand Theft Auto IV from 2007 to 2008. The decision to postpone was made just four months before the release date and announced two months before.
For Grand Theft Auto VI, Vermeij expects a similar approach if necessary. Rockstar Games is more than aware of the game’s potential and will not jeopardize it just to meet a release date:
“The decision to delay GTA IV was made about four months before the original release date. Any longer and it’s a hard decision to make. Rockstar probably won’t be able to decide before May if they’ll make it to 2025.”
“GTA VI will sell for 10 years and there’s no competition to worry about. They’re not going to release the game until they’re 100% happy with it. No matter what the trailer says.”
