The performance increase of the PS5 Pro CPU is only 10%. For the GPU it is at least 45%.
What rumors there were! The PS5 Pro has twice as much power as the PlayStation 5, or preferably four times as much power in a direct comparison.
In the end it is “only” 10% on the CPU side and 45% on the GPU side. A typical mid-gen upgrade that also has to take the previous hardware into account.
So it was actually clear from the start that a PS5 Pro would never make such huge leaps as some “insiders and fans” out there were spreading. But of course you can still dream, right?
Tom Warren of The Verge confirmed the PlayStation 5 Pro’s real performance increase over the current PlayStation 5 hardware: +10% CPU and +45% GPU through the PS5 Pro Dev Docs.
However, in order to reach 3.85 GHz, the developers have to use a new high-frequency mode and speed up the console. In normal operation, the PS5 Pro runs at 3.5 GHz – less than the Xbox Series X. There is also 1.2 GB more system memory for developers.
Tom Warren said: “I’ve seen the many PS5 Pro developer documents and Sony has made some interesting decisions for its next console.”
“The PS5 Pro CPU will target 3.85GHz (10% more than the PS5) in a new high frequency mode. In standard mode it is 3.5 GHz. Developers can select the mode and also get access to 1.2GB more system memory, as Sony has released 13.7GB on the PS5 Pro for developers, compared to 12.5GB on the PS5. This is not new information, but I can confirm that it is accurate.”

“10% more on the CPU side and 45% on the GPU side.”
Overall, the PS5 Pro only offers around 25 to 30% more performance than a current Xbox Series X console. That’s including the GPU, while CPU performance is almost identical: 3.85GHz PS5 Pro in high-frequency mode to 3.8GHz on Xbox Series X.
Based on these technical details, which are confirmed by the PS5 dev docs, it is assumed that the PS5 Pro will not magically allow CPU-limited games like Grand Theft Auto VI to suddenly run at full power at 60fps, as many have also done “Insiders” were alleged.
All in all, PS5 Pro buyers can look forward to slightly higher resolution and better graphics. But we already had that with the Xbox One X and the PS4 Pro. A typical mid-gen upgrade!
