At least three large publishers should consider shifting their games in the face of the publication of Grand Theft Auto VI.
If everything runs as planned by Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto VI is one of the largest video game publications in recent years in autumn. There is still no official date.
In order not to go under in the hype around the publication, several large publishers should consider a possible postponement of their games, such as The game business reports:
“Rockstar games always withdraw a lot of money and especially time,” the boss is quoted in one of the world's largest publishers. “We don't want to get that close. We are working on several different plans for our titles”.
“Even without GTA, it is extremely difficult to find free time for new games,” said another manager. “Time is the real scarcity for us, not money. It's hard out there.”
“We don't want to get on the market shortly before or shortly after the game. If it comes onto the market at the end of October, it means that you either have to come onto the market early-which many people have seemed to do in the face of the flood of summer publications recently. Or you have to bring it onto the market later because you will then be confronted with the sales at Black Friday,” explains a AAA publisher that is based in Europe.
In addition, according to the report, two developers of TOP 10 live service games are said to have indicated important updates for their games in order to avoid the start window of Grand Theft Auto VI:
“GTA 6 is basically a huge meteor and we will simply avoid the impact zone,” said one of the studio bosses. “We will move our publications back or in front by three weeks to avoid it. The problem is of course that everyone will do the same. Three to four weeks before or after GTA 6 there will be a lot of games that publish their content in the supposedly safe zone.”
