RavenSwatchdeveloped by Passtech Games and published by Naconis a roguelike that invites you to play as a hero inspired by legends and classic tales. The game is distinguished by its emphasis on cooperation and has recently left its Early Access to launch the version 1.0. If you are a fan of the genre, don’t miss this analysis to discover all the details of this fascinating proposition
A world succumbed to darkness
At startup RavenSwatch, We enter a world shrouded in darkness, where our mission is to purge it from the map. To achieve this, we can choose between 9 heroes inspired by stories and legends, with whom we will face hordes of enemies to improve our team and acquire new skills that will help us overcome the challenges that await us.
Each game offers a unique experience thanks to random card generationwhich changes with each new seed assigned. This creates a dynamic environment full of points of interest to explore, where we can obtain upgrades, invest the collected money and complete missions that will empower our hero. However, time is limited: we will have some time to prepare before facing the powerful boss who dominates each scenario.
Varied and addictive gameplay
From the moment of selection, The wide variety of heroes available gives us the feeling that each choice is unique. Each character has their own set of skills, which vary depending on the day-night cycle present in the game, changing their performance depending on the time of day. Each character has a basic attack, a passive ability, a defensive ability, two special attacks and an ultimate ability, all with their respective cooldowns, as well as a dash shared by all heroes.
On each card we will have a limit of 19 minutes strengthen our hero; Once this time has passed, we will automatically be transported to the meeting with the boss of the area, ready or not for the f inal battle. Additionally, each new attempt takes place on a different map, forcing us to adapt our strategies and create new skill combinations. The luck factor therefore also plays a crucial role in our survival and success.
Points of interest change with each level, but can become repetitive after several plays. The game uses a top-down perspective similar to titles like Hades Yes Diablowith a fluid and responsive movement. Battles, especially against bosses, are intense and addictive, keeping players motivated to overcome each challenge.
By defeating the boss, you move to the next level, where we face even more powerful enemies. However, if we fall in combat, we return to the lobby and have to start from scratch. Each game with a hero unlocks chapters that reveal fragments of their story and allow them to obtain specific upgrades to their abilities. Finally, we have items that can be used at key moments, such as raven feathers, which allow us to return to combat after being defeated.
With a striking cel-shaded visual style and impeccable optimization
RavenSwatch features a dark fantasy art style with comic book and animation influences. The graphics evoke a visual style similar to cel-shading. The environment and characters have a design that mixes the mystical and the dark, with creatures and settings that reflect a world of nightmares and fables. The video game soundtrack, although not a central element, adequately accompanies the gaming experience, generating the appropriate atmosphere for each situation. Additionally, the sound effects stand out for their clarity and definition, adding an extra level of immersion to the journey.
Regarding optimization, the studio did an excellent job. During my hours of play, I didn’t experience any errors, FPS drops, or any kind of crashes, which speaks volumes about the title’s performance. However, it is worth mentioning that resizing technologies such as DLSS, FSR or XeSS are not available in the graphics options.
Conclusion of the video game
RavenSwatch It stands out for its action and roguelike proposal, with a dark atmosphere and a cast of heroes based on stories and legends. Random card generation and a variety of abilities bring freshness to each match, while fluid combat and intense boss fights keep the adrenaline high. However, the repetitiveness of points of interest and a soundtrack that doesn’t stand out can detract from its impact. Still, the game offers a solid and fun experience, ideal for fans of the genre, although it still has room for improvement.
RavenSwatch is available in PC (Steam) and on November 28 it will be available for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Play Station 5 and Play Station 4.
