Classic Rugrats cartoons leave TV series for new adventure in video game format
Even though I haven’t seen an episode of Rugrats in ages, I still find these endearing babies very adorable. I remember that the series was very innocent, without too many setbacks, but it still managed to captivate me with all the adventures that Tommy and his friends had. Some adventures which will soon be extrapolated on our consoles, and fortunately we have already been able to try Rugrats – Adventures in Gameland. A title that evokes not only the Nickelodeon series itself, but also the first games that we were able to enjoy on our brand new NES.
MIX games and Wallride are responsible for developing this gem inspired by the catalog of 8-bit consoles, although we can also enjoy the entire plot with a design more in tune with modern times.
To explore the outside world
The version we were able to test Rugrats – Adventures in Gameland There were two phases. The first of these focuses on the house itself and acts as a tutorial of all the movements that we can perform. The essence that the game conveys to other NES works is undeniable. I see references everywhere: from the great game Chip and Chop, to Ducktales or Super Mario Bros 2. In its contemporary aspect this is perhaps less seen, but if we change the graphic style we will see it clearly.
This first level, in addition to helping us control our protagonist, This gives us insight into the future goals we need to achieve. The back of the TV hides a mysterious door that will only open if we obtain a certain amount of dinosaur parts, and this will be our task in the next missions. A challenge that isn’t overly difficult, or at least that’s what it seems to me in the early stages of the game.
There is sand in my diaper
Like in the series, our game protagonists will use their imagination to travel through fantasy worlds. We see this clearly in the second phase of Rugrats – Adventures in Gameland. The park’s sandbox hides an incredible oriental world full of pyramids, temples and secrets who await our arrival. Here we clearly see how this digging action is faithfully taken from Mario’s second adventure on the NES, bringing back fond memories for any seasoned gamer.
This level has much more complexity than the first, since you will have to explore in search of keys, and the rooms are a little more hidden. Furthermore, we will have a final boss
Back to our childhood
Generally speaking, I found this game based on the famous series very interesting. We’ll have to wait for the final product, but the variety of situations, the fidelity of the drawing compared to the 90s series that we all know and the platform proposal that it offers can be integrated very well, whether you’re a fan of these babies or not. There are certain problems of tear which I assume will be fixed with the final version, but in general everything moves smoothly in both cameras that we have (one more pan and another with a bit more zoom focusing on our layered hero).
If we add to all this the original music of the series, I am sure that We will travel to our childhood and we will enjoy again like a dwarf all the adventures that this group of friends experiences. Everything indicates that August will be the month chosen to launch the final version of the game, even if nothing is yet consolidated.
