It’s been four years since we last heard from the Spyro franchise, the classic saga of a purple dragon that many gamers have fallen in love with in the past. Since the release of Spyro: Reignited Trilogy, a collection that sought to commemorate titles from the past; but, beyond that, there was no news of the development of a new title.
In November, a rumor circulated that development of a new Spyro title had already started in mid-2020, which didn’t have much of an impact, as it was just mere speculation that a studio like Toys for Bob, developing other Crash Bandicoot games, would be in charge of a dragon game. Now, to put an end to all the rumors, a very reliable new leaker in the industry has denied all that and stoned that a game may be in development.
Spyro, a classic saga abandoned in time
Sylux, a famous industry leaker, was asked about the rumors and made it clear that it was all fake. Now, with this sad news, we would be facing a shortage of 3D platformers. Games like Banjo-kazooie, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, and even Conker are on the decline. Since Microsoft acquired Rare, this class of video games that was the flagship of the study has ceased to be relevant and has simply become cult, something that can be reversed today, but it seems that it will not like that.
Spyro’s case is the same, with Activision leading the way, it seems interest in Crash Bandicoot has eclipsed the purple dragon and relegated it to mere cameos in games from other developers. That being the case, if you want a brand new Spyro game, you can wait. In the meantime, and if you haven’t tried them yet, Spyro: Reignited Trilogy is available on all platforms at a very affordable price.
Some of you have asked me to give my opinion on this. No new Spyro titles were in development in 2020. https://t.co/VDjXtnhIo7
