At first glance gesture looks like a simple game in environments 3D where the drawn scenarios stand out, but it goes beyond that, a use of colors, environments, a flat design focused on advancing according to the shadow areas (using shadows as a game mechanic) and above all a background that at a certain point can seem personal or close. All this and much more is found in this title that brings us a whole adventure. unusualbut it adds a new experience full of emotions and one artistic style adapted to what you want to convey.
Technical section
Regarding the technical part, we have a design that does not seek to stand out in terms of graphic load or maximization resources used in performance, the game nevertheless uses console optimization correctly, even if it is not demanding, it nevertheless presents a optimization more than acceptableOn the other hand, we have a game that uses scenarios based on the color of the backgrounds and the lines they draw, which stands out for the use of color theory and a synergy with lightning depending on the situations that the game shows, accompanied by customization options, which if you are not satisfied with the choice of colors of the scenarios, can be modified, not in favor of accessibility but for the comfort of the game.
The game works perfectly on consoles Xbox Series Xoffering a stable 60 frames per second performance and a high resolution that is up to par with this type of games. In summary, gesture It is an experience that conforms in its technical part to a game of advancement through medium-sized scenarios.
It should be noted that along the route, approximately 7 hoursThere were no errors or bugs, in addition to not finding any visual errors, which is a great achievement, if we take into account that the artistic section is vital to enjoy it.
Gameplay
gesture It is not a complicated game, it has few mechanisms that are discovered from the beginning of the game, we control SChiM, a small being who is “glue” to “something”, a person or an object, in this case, we look at how the SChiM accompanies us from childhood to adulthoodafter a series of events that separates the SChiM from the personwe will have to go through different scenarios to return to the human being with whom we were united from the beginning and face the consequences of separation.
We will have two jumps available similar to those of a frogactivating objects that simply react with an animation or can present useful actions such as changing scenes or moving to another space in scenarios. Additionally, as a mechanic present to help the perspectivewe are allowed to rotate the view in most scenarios, this is to expand the ways to advance to the end of the scenario or to unlock other paths than from a single one point of view they would not be accessible.
To move around the scene and its objects, we must constantly be looking for spaces that generate shadows, which will allow us to move forward. Most of the spaces are fixed in some parts, but as the game progresses we will be able to see. other ways to pass through objects or characters that will last for a certain time until they reappear on stage.
Duration
The duration of SChiM is not very long, as it does not present any challenge difficulty can be easily overcome by an average player, but it is a concrete experience that seeks to convey a message with a slight cinematic and playability, and that does more than fill it, the replay value of the game is not very high, as there are no different paths, decisions or chapter selection.
Beyond replaying it to get achievements, it’s an experience that’s enough to play through once, which can be enough with about 7 to 10 hoursdepending on the pace and curiosity that players present at each level throughout their adventure.
conclusion
gesture It is a game that invites us to try something calmer, it is not a story that seeks to introduce characters, give extensive contexts or complicate with extensive plots, beyond that, the game seeks to make you have a good time, have fun at certain moments or reflect on the emotions that are common in people when they are faced problems or experience happiness or nostalgiaamong other moments that the game represents very well despite the simplicity that could be interpreted with its art design.
If you are looking for an experience of conventional 2D platformtrying out the different mechanics, unlike corridor games which tend to feel repetitive, this can initially feel like a limited game, until the perspectives come into play and give more freedom.
We recommend SChiM to try something quieter, to find a moment of experimentation Or relax Accompanied by pleasant visuals and a matching soundtrack, players can find an interesting space to take a break from other more frenetic experiences or to enjoy free time from other activities that may overwhelm them in their daily lives. gesture This can be that showcase to give you a to break and look for a space meeting staff.
