It is finally time for players to join the fight and reclaim earth from the mutated dinosaurs that are currently ruling Second Extinction (Game Preview).
Having the game available today through the Game Preview program with Xbox Game Pass on the first day is more than exciting and allows us to create the game with you as we near a full release. But before we throw you in on the dinosaurs, here are some things that might be good to know.
How did we get here?
The dinosaurs, which we all believed to be extinct, have been lying in the earth’s crust for millions of years, resting and waiting for the perfect circumstances to occur. And when they did that, they were quick and ruthless. Everything had changed in a matter of hours. Faced with total annihilation, the Directors of the Emergency Response Agency (ERA) organized planetary evacuations.
Now, years later, the human resistance has formed anew and is finally ready to fight back. Teams of survivors with relevant experience will return to Earth from orbiting space stations to gather vital resources, weapons and information about the dinosaurs. And this is where you, our extinction elite, come in.
That is worth mentioning Second extinction isn’t a game that focuses on lore, but you’ll get hints and winkles in the seasonal content about what happened and how the dinosaurs became the mutated animals that they are. So if you feel like it, take a look.
Squad up!
Why 3 player co-op? At the beginning of development, the team played around with different setups and ideas. What worked best was a 3 player roster and so on Second extinction was designed with this in mind. This does not mean that you cannot fall to earth with just a friend who joins you or walks alone, but that you do so at your own risk. It’s quite a challenge that deserves to be bragged about rights if you survive, especially on the higher difficulty levels.
If I can’t persuade you to bring assistance on the planet, I recommend starting with Expedition Mode, which allows you to roam the map freely and call a DropShip to get you back when you’re ready to get back to safety walk .
Who is your choice
We currently have five heroes that fit into three classes. We have our Troopers, the agile DPS class, in which we have dashing Ortega and stealth sniper Jürgen. Next we have the enforcers, our beasts or tanks with the big and heavy weapons that only an exo-suit hero can handle. Find Rosy and our newest addition to the Jack lineup here. Finally we have the Operators, the Gadgety class, in which we find our explosion and laser loving Amir.
In addition to their different strengths, the classes also determine which weapons the character can play with. For example, the enforcers have the rocket launcher and the operators have the grenade launcher. I recommend trying all of them to see what works best for you and your style of play.
How does progression work?
Do you remember the rocket launcher? It unlocks at level 15. The more you play and collect research and materials, the higher the level you will reach and on the way to the current max level of 25 you will unlock some rocking gear and weapons.
You can also use the research and materials collected to upgrade and unlock weapon perks. Don’t avoid killing dinosaurs that you find challenging. They drop different materials, and of course the ones you need for the cool perks are a little rarer. So be versatile about what species you kill. Or just kill everyone.
Below is the Scout Rifle skill tree. There are a set number of tokens that can be used and placed strategically. So try different combinations and experiment to find out which benefits work best for you.
Where can you give your opinion?
As a community manager, I want to hear as many individual voices as possible to understand what the community is thinking. To reduce the risk of losing your feedback and to keep it as efficient as possible, you are invited to meet with us discord Server.
Since our Early Access release on Steam last October, our discord was the base of operations for the community. Here you can talk to other players, ask questions, provide feedback and connect with the development team. We also have weekly challenges and a survey every Monday to get the community’s opinion on game-related issues. It would be very grateful if you would like to be part of the community to join our discord and make your voice heard. If you’re interested in making an impact on the future, this is the best way to make sure we hear you loud and clear.
See you on the battlefields and on our social channels!

This game is in the works. It may or may not change over time or be published as an end product. Only buy if you are familiar with the current status of the unfinished game. A NEW BREED OF BIG MAP MULTIPLAYER SHOOTER The goal is simple: reclaim earth. In Second Extinction, you and up to two friends compete against hordes of mutated dinosaurs. Attention solo players: Second Extinction was specially developed for squads. Only the strong will survive. PREVIEWING THE GAME IS JUST THE BEGINNING The goal of previewing games is also simple: work with our community to get the best game possible. We want to hear your feedback loud and clear and want our community to be an integral part of the development process. Still, there is a lot to do from day one: 4 heroes, 10 weapons (each with 5 upgrade levels) and 6 missions – plus some special side quests – in several regions of our large map. Join the war effort, create the future. Our mantra is that players win battles, communities win wars. Nowhere is this more true than in our War Effort function. Each region on our large map has a unique threat level. This threat level can be lowered if enough of our players have successfully completed their missions and activities. But the dinosaurs don’t rest either, and focus their efforts where you aren’t. Each week the church will see the fruits of their labor or feel the consequences of their incompetence. Let the threat level spiral out of control and you can expect a particularly harsh emergence event to be awaited. When you play Second Extinction, you’re not just getting another co-op shooter. You will accompany us on a journey as we shape the experience. Every feedback and mission that you play is important. So what are you waiting for? The battle to recapture the earth begins here.
