Studio founder Shinji Mikami comments on the closure of Tango Gameworks.

Just a few days ago, Microsoft announced that it would be closing several studios. This included not only Redfall developer Arkane Austin, but also Tango Gameworks – the studio behind Hi-Fi Rush.

Now Tango Gameworks founder Shinji Mikami commented on the bad news via X.

He summarized his thoughts and his displeasure very briefly and succinctly.

He wrote: “Tango closed. Sad.”

Shinji Mikami is considered the creator of the Resident Evil series. He founded Tango Gameworks in 2010. The Evil Within, its successor The Evil Within 2 as well as Ghostwire: Tokyo and Hi-Fi Rush were developed here.

The Japanese studio was bought by ZeniMax Media shortly after it was founded. Since the merger of Microsoft and Bethesda, the studio has most recently belonged to the Redmond group.

Shinji Mikami left Tango Gameworks in February of last year to support young developers at his new studio KAMUY. Above all, he wants to develop smaller, unique games.

With his departure, Tango Gameworks was left without a leadership position and with Shinji’s departure, numerous talented developers from Tango Gameworks followed him to KAMUY, which obviously ultimately led to the studio’s closure, because the studio lacked developers and talent in every corner End up.

It is calledthat the remaining Tango Gameworks team had prepared a Hi-fi Rush 2 pitch, but at the same time also announced that a large number of new talents would have to be found and hired in order to make it a reality.

Booty from Microsoft is said to have said that the studios were spread thinner than peanut butter on toast and many felt overwhelmed and completely understaffed. So they apparently decided to close, even though Matt Booty reiterated that Microsoft needs games like Hi-fi Rush.

There will also be further studio closures and staff reductions at Microsoft and Xbox Game Studios.
