The game series Silent Hill and Resident Evil were sources of inspiration for The Medium.
The upcoming Xbox-exclusive horror game The Medium from Polish developer Bloober Team was originally supposed to emerge from the shadows in December. Now January 28, 2021 on Xbox and PC is all about the upcoming horror.
The developers used some well-known horror games from the past as inspiration. For example, the well-known composer Akira Yamaoka, who has already worked on the Silent Hill series, was hired for the soundtrack and the sound effects.
In particular, the fixed camera perspectives in The Medium should be reminiscent of the style of older horror games and be ideally suited for the unique dual reality gameplay.
Producer Jacek Zieba explains to GamingBolt: “We experimented with different camera angles during development and ultimately decided that using semi-fixed camera angles is the best solution for the most comfortable gaming experience when it comes to viewing the world either in a single or in to explore double reality. “
“Because of the fixed camera angles, we were able to give the whole game an even stronger cinematic feel. At the same time, we’re kind of referring to old school horror games like Silent Hill or Resident Evil, which were a huge inspiration for us when we designed The Medium. “
When asked specifically about the legendary Silent Hill 2, he continues: “In our opinion, Silent Hill 2 is one of the best horror games of all time. Both Silent Hill 2 and the other offshoots in the series have always been a great inspiration for us when we want to expose ourselves to psychological horror. “
“For The Medium, Silent Hill 2 was one of the main inspirations when it comes to the atmosphere of the game. When playing The Medium, players familiar with the Silent Hill series should experience similar themes and aesthetics in our game, especially in the context of the overall atmosphere. “
There are currently no concrete plans for the developer Bloober Team to make the game available for other systems such as the PlayStation 5.
