We are still reeling from the bombshell Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard. This is obviously not the first purchase made by the Redmond company, but it is the most important it has made to date and of course also the most important in the history of video games.
As you probably already know, there is still a little over a year for this acquisition to materialize and, of course, many doubts surround the purchase. One of them (perhaps the one you tell us the most about) is what will happen to the company’s games, which to date have been and are cross-platform. We don’t know, and according to Sony’s latest statement, it looks like neither.
Activision will be part of Microsoft from 2023
In this statement, which we have seen in The Wall Street Journal, Sony comments that it expects Microsoft to “fulfill contractual agreements and continue to ensure Activision games are cross-platform.” However, Microsoft has not yet commented on these offers. most likely it will do the same as after buying Bethesdai.e. respecting all agreements between the two companies up to the date of purchase and launching exclusive games after it (like Starfield).
There are probably contracts in place that Microsoft will honor just like they did with Deathloop and will do with Ghostwire Tokyo
Once those are exhausted, however..
