What do you like about roleplaying games? One of the charming aspects of role-playing games is the ability to raise your own character and become a part of the world your character breathes. How about some action games? As for combat, there’s no doubt that cornering your opponents and exploiting their weaknesses while giving up fancy moves can be very, very satisfying. Today we introduce you Inanimate, an action RPG that delicately mixes the elements of both genres.
Inanimate tells the story of Maras, a prince whose kingdom fell under a sudden attack on undead creatures. As Prince Maras, you must defeat countless enemies and bosses to find out the truth behind the collapse of the kingdom. Throughout the journey, you will also help Prince Maras gain strength by absorbing the “souls” dropped by the enemies. Souls in this game are symbolic and also make up a large part of the game’s combat system.
While playing Inanimate, Fight is your only concern. No puzzles or twisting and twisting cards to weave through; You will need this energy to brush up on your combination skills. The battles are fast paced and require a skillful balance between attack and defense, where souls and timed attacks come into play.
Souls are consumed to replenish your stamina, improve your skills, and even destroy large objects on the map to create paths. Plus, you can time your attacks just right to counter-attack and perform a range of follow-up moves. It may take you some time to get used to it, but once you get the hang of using all of the techniques available to you, cutting through monsters will give you the incredible satisfaction that only action RPGs can offer.
While our focus so far has been on the gaming experience, we have to say that the game’s brilliant pixel graphics are also worth mentioning. Everything you see in this post was drawn by Jinsub Jung, the only creator and developer of Inanimate. Jinsub took much of his views on the action game genre and was inspired by the myth of Oedipus in Inanimatewhich can be clearly seen during the game.
Although still in development, Inanimate is now available as part of the Xbox Game Preview program. Get your copy today and see where the action takes you.
