The British competition authority CMA has published a statement from the EU on today’s approval of the acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
The European Commission today approved the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, subject to conditions.
The British Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) commented on the decision. They still stand by their decision and see the free competition in danger, in which Microsoft would set the tone for the next ten years.
According to Gamesindustry.biz, the CMA said: “Microsoft’s proposals, adopted today by the European Commission, would allow Microsoft to determine the conditions for this market for the next ten years. They would replace a free, open, and competitive market with one that is subject to constant regulation of the games Microsoft sells, the platforms on which they are sold, and the terms of sale. This is one of the reasons why the CMA’s independent panel rejected Microsoft’s proposals and prevented the deal.”
“While we recognize and respect that the European Commission has the right to disagree, the CMA stands by its decision.”
