Hello Xbox fans, I’m Brjann Sigurgeirsson, the director of the Steam World universe and franchise. I’m excited to share some exciting news with you today, especially all SteamWorld fans out there. We just announced the next installment in the series and we’re bouncing between genres again! It’s called SteamWorld build and will be available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One in 2023!
Before I delve deeper into the latest entry in the series, I’d like to take this opportunity to reflect on its diverse predecessors and how they’ve influenced what we’re doing this year SteamWorld build. I’ve been with the show since its inception, way back in 2010 Steam World Tower Defensewas published. With our debut Steam World title, we put players in control of an army of steam-powered robots in – well, you guessed it – tower-defense-style gameplay.
with SteamWorld dig, which came to Xbox One in 2015, the engine really started to chug. In this game we have combined elements of Spelunky, Boulder Dash, Dig Dug and Metroidvanias. This created a satisfying loop of exploration, mining, combat, and upgrades that you all truly believe in, and has helped make our little series an indie superstar. Then we returned to this story with SteamWorld Excavation 2
One of the reasons I wanted to take you through the history of the genre shift briefly Steam World is to emphasize again what Steam World is and how you can expect a sequel to it SteamWorld build later this year. Steam World is a universe that we have intentionally cultivated to give us the creative freedom to go in any direction we choose. With every genre we take on, we try to distill the gameplay down to its core essence, and then add our own unique twist to make it feel fresh again.
This leads us to the game I know you’ve all been anxiously waiting to hear about: SteamWorld build! We take again Steam World in a whole new direction by fusing our beloved steam powered robots with the city building genre. In our upcoming game, you will not only build and manage an above-ground city, but you will also dig underground while mining for materials to manage and optimize your resource chains to help the city thrive. I’ve already lost enough hours in this game to tell you that the gameplay looping of this multi-level approach is incredibly rewarding!
To some extent it’s a loop that builds on what we’ve done with that dig games. You explore, mine, collect, and then return to the surface to build, upgrade, and improve. In case of SteamWorld build
With all the differences Steam World With titles released in the past, we showed how we could offer new players an accessible entry point into a complex genre without taking away the strategic richness of the series’ veterans. That’s an important part of the Steam World Formula and something we do again with SteamWorld build. Designed for consoles from the start, we invite newcomers and genre devotees alike to follow a story that takes the Steambots to perilous depths and find ancient technology that could help them take off into space and escape Earth before collapsing completely.
After working on the Steam World Series from the beginning, I’m really excited for this next step in the franchise and I hope you all join us on a journey that will see you Steam World
Thank you for reading this Xbox Wire post. I’m excited to welcome back our fans, old and new, and see you later this year for the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One release. You can continue to follow the game youtube, Twitterand Facebook.
