Stonefly Analysis – Xbox Zone The New Work of Flight School Studio

stonefly is the new title of Flight school studio, What came to the fore in 2019 with your previous job, Creature in the well. stonefly offers us a platform adventure with some action and crafting touches, and with a very personal and striking audiovisual section.

The universe of Stonefly

The title takes us to a universe in which humans are tiny in relation to the flora and fauna (insects) of the wooded areas that surround them. To move around in this universe, humans use insect-shaped “wicks”, essential to survive and obtain the necessary resources.

The story begins with Annika, protagonist of the title, working alongside his father in the workshop. After an unexpected event, Annika is forced to go on a quest to solve the mess he’s involved in. In this way we will be involved in a personal journey of maturity, which the game will show us in various scenes and conversations that occur when Annika is resting on her bed. During Annika’s journey we will meet various characters who will be essential

for the course of events.

We are faced with a title that draws attention to the way it enters through the eyes. The design of the sets and the characters is very original and captivating, with a style close to a watercolor, and with a palette of colors in pastel tones, but also warm and a little muted. The music, without standing out from other aspects, accompanies at all times and does not squeak at any time, giving way to solemn moments and also to moments of action.

The original playable experience

This is all very well, but, How do we play stonefly?, let’s see it in the following lines. As we mentioned above, we use the “mechas” to move around in the different scenarios of the title. It is basically about exploring the levels to achieve the objectives, jumping, planning and enjoying the exploration, while we get resources to improve our “wick”. These improvements are one of the great successes of the title, since we can customize our vehicle, both for the choice of improvements and for their aesthetic appearance.

The mechas move like the insects on which they base their designs, and among other things we can jump, hover, attack with “darts” … that too highly dependent on the upgrades we purchase. Thus, we can improve the different “attributes” to call them so, resistance of the helmet, jumping power, more powerful attacks …

At certain times, we will reach certain points of the scene where it becomes an “arena” from where We won’t be able to leave until we’re done with all the enemies

. To get rid of our enemies (also insects), we’ll have to kick them off the stage by knocking them out firstor, later, to push them and toss them to either side of the stage. It’s a game that moves away from violence and it can be a good option for family play and that the little ones in the house can enjoy in the company of an adult.

A work with lights and shadows

stonefly offers a mix already seen but from an audiovisual point of view and original gameplay, but the latter has lights and shadows. It seemed to us that it’s a game with very good intentions but when it comes to executing ideas, we lack a bit of “shisha”. The story, although with an interesting premise, does not end at any point and important characters are a priori wasted.

What made us want to continue the adventure the most is be able to continue to improve our “mecha”

the maximum possible. For this we need a lot of mineral resources, which means rehearse battles and scenarios because some of them are only obtained in specific areas. This clearly subtracts points from the final set, find the precisely repetitive process, sometimes obligatory to be able to continue moving forward.

Stonefly conclusions

We are faced with a title that exudes originality from all four sides, both visually and playable. The title does not lack “but” because his story does not end up being interesting and during some sections there is a repetition of scenarios and the mechanics to be able to keep going, and finishing it can take us about 7 hours. Despite these negative points, the personalization of our “mecha” and the pleasure of handling it on stageWe think it’s a trip that can be enjoyed, with the added benefit of being able to play it with the little ones in the family. If you want to read more analytics like this and keep up to date with all the Xbox news, be sure to visit the Xbox area.

Pro.

  • An original proposal
  • Neat audiovisual section
  • Customization of the “mecha”

Against.

  • The story is not very interesting
  • Replay of scenarios and mechanics
