The Spanish studio Astral Pixel offers us a 2D platform title that will not leave you indifferent.
2D platform games are characterized by a single element that is repeated in all products: the jumps. The game that occupies us today, Super MagbotIt’s a 2D platformer game, yes, but it’s not the typical jumping platformer we’re used to seeing. The little robot we drive too heavy to jump, we must therefore remedy this shortcoming by overcoming the levels and platforms using magnets.
As an evil force slowly unleashes across the galaxy, MagTek town needs a hero. With the ability to control magnetic polarity, Magbot will have to cross environments full of obstacles to save the Magnetia system. Although the plot is not a panacea, it is only a pretext to present us with a title that wants to gain a foothold in such a competitive market.
In Super Magbot the levels will be full of dangers that we must avoid to complete the phase. As we said, we will not be able to use the typical platform game jump, so we will use magnetic attraction and repulsion. In the levels we find blue and red signs scattered in all areas, allowing the protagonist to approach or move away from objects. All you have to do is point at the desired panel and press the trigger of the same color to repel or the reverse to attract.
Planning ahead is essential here, so in many times we will meet memorize the color sequences for each phase. Each area is small, but contains so many dangers that it will cause instant death. Instantly relive and retry phases multiple times it’s an addictive loop that will keep you hooked. This mix of puzzle and platformer looks really good on you.
Every phase and every world it is based on a mechanism which adds variety to the whole. For example, a world includes bubbles that keep you in the air for a while and another has fire platforms, forcing the player to play at a certain pace. Introducing new game elements per game from the Spanish studio Astral Pixel
At the end of each world we will meet the typical final boss battle. These are without a doubt the best parts of the game, as they not only test our skills but also vary greatly from each other. Whether you are being chased in an environment or avoiding attacks in a closed environment, every fight we experience is a joy.
Regarding the graphic part, we are faced with a title 2D pixel-art emulating legendary 16-bit titles. It’s an art style that’s been very trendy lately, although we have to say it looks pretty good here. The levels also feature a large number of colors, as well as enemies and other items. As for the sound section, the electronic style based on chiptune melodies looks great, since it evokes the classics of the genre. The title is completely in Spanish.
Super Magbot is quite a fun game. Using the head to overcome a level where we have died more than 10 times or to complete a final boss is something that will give us a very great sense of reward. For players looking for a different and challenging title in the platform genre, this Super Magbot is your title.
