Is this your first day at work?
Don’t worry at all, working in zero gravity isn’t nearly as scary or difficult as people say it is. Also, LYNX Corporation has all your genetic data on file in case there are any slip-ups on day one. If you blow yourself up destroying a difficult ship, we’ll bring you right back, no fuss. You have to pay for it, of course; Protection and safety always have their price!
Still, day one can be difficult for anyone, so we’re going to walk you through salvaging your very first ship Hardspace: Shipbreaker, the zero-gravity space salvage simulator from Blackbird Interactive and Focus Entertainment. We want to keep death and dismemberment to a minimum while you get used to the thrill of salvaging every last bit of material and gear on the ships you work on, so please read carefully as we share some of the best advice that we can give you Shipbreaker, which is just getting started.
Space may be cold and lonely, but profit will always keep us warm!
Get used to moving in zero gravity
Salvage Bay is like any office, only without air, gravity, or basic security. Are you dropping your guard or getting overwhelmed and panicking? You’re as good as gone. It’s been zero days since our accident, and that number hasn’t changed in years.
Why is it so dangerous out here? Without practice, it’s easy to lose control of your own movement, only to end up crashing into a solid object, drifting into the furnace, wasting salvage, or even causing your own death. If you want to save on the expense of a new body, practice your movement until space becomes your playground. So strap on your thrusters, take a deep breath from the can and let’s get started.
Use your scanner to create a plan and your cutting tool to put it into action
The first ship you salvage is a Mackerel, a relatively small transport ship. Think of each ship you salvage as a chicken wing: the goal is to get as much tissue off the bone as possible for maximum profit. Anything wasted will be credited to you; Space salvage is a business where efficiency and precision are everything.
So when you’re presented with your first ship, you’ll want to use your scan tool to take a look at the ship’s layout and get an idea of where the intersection points are – the structures marked in yellow on the scanner that hold the ship together – are. For now, you should look for an open airlock or remove the thruster cap from the stern of the ship.
Once inside, use the laser cutter in the stinger configuration for maximum safety to melt each cut point, being careful not to overheat the laser cutter. The heat meter for the tool is on the side of the hardware, and you’ll also hear a warning chime if you’re close to overheating – which would cause your suit to catch fire, and any flammable objects around you to also burn or explode. More importantly, this can also kill you, and even if it doesn’t, it hurts quite a bit.
LYNX counts every dollar, but you shouldn’t
The more time you can spend salvaging, the more efficient you become, so it always pays to keep an eye on your supplies, both for LYNX and for you!!
Everything you do Hardspace: Shipbreaker during a shift in the campaign costs resources. You must keep your thrusters fueled, your air supply refilled, your suit in good condition, and your consumables loaded. You can sometimes find supplies in the ships you salvage, but don’t bet on it; It’s important to pay attention to the level of each of your resources so that you don’t suddenly gasp because you’ve been too focused on your cutting.
Luckily, LYNX has thought ahead and brought you a kiosk that plugs into your living quarters and dispenses all those supplies and more for as long as you can pay for them. This is not the time to be tight on your money; dying and having to pay for a new body is a lot more money than investing in a safe and smooth shift. Remember that each shift in campaign mode lasts 15 minutes, so it’s important to keep an eye on the clock in order to earn the most possible money to pay off your debt with LYNX.
In many ways, your attention is the most valuable resource of all. Spend it wisely! Follow this advice and you’ll have a great first day with us Hardspace: Shipbreaker – Available now on Xbox Series X|S and included with Xbox Game Pass.
