Adapting video games to movies and TV shows has been a controversial topic for some time in the entertainment industry. Some productions have failed in the past, in fact I would say there have been more failures than successes in this respect, and still I’m having a hard time erasing from my memory the Netflix series “based” on Resident Evil… Luckily, some recent hits like Sonic The Hedgehog and HBO’s The Last of Us have spurred studios to continue exploring this avenue, because you can make a great product if you stick with the source material.
One of the most popular games of all time, Super Mario Bros. has finally arrived on the big screen. Although the film received mixed reviews, it should be a blockbuster and satisfy fans of the Nintendo franchise. And let’s not forget that fanservice sells, and it sells very well.
Minecraft: The Movie hopes to be a blockbuster
On the other hand, the Minecraft movie is one of the most anticipated projects from Warner Bros. Based on Mojang and Microsoft’s gem, it was supposed to release in May 2019, but it was delayed several times due to different issues including the covid-19 pandemic.
But now, Deadline Information that the film finally has a Release date confirmed for April 4, 2025. While there’s still a long way to go, fans can be sure the film is finally coming to fruition. Jared Hess, the director of the popular films Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, is helming the project and, according to some leaks, is in talks with Jason Momoa to star in it.
In short, while the wait for the Minecraft movie has been a long and bumpy one, fans at least now know that the wait will finally be over in a few years. With a talented director and an all-star cast, this film promises to be a blockbuster and a thrilling adventure for those who love the original game. Although to be honest we have a bad precedent, the series that came out on Netflix about the game was another of the famous failures I mentioned earlier.
