skull and bones, coming to Xbox Series X|S on November 8th, lets players explore a fictionalized version of the Indian Ocean during the Golden Age of Piracy – but piracy didn’t just appear out of nowhere. It sustained a rich trade in spices, silk, and other hot goods for 17th-century Europeans. This lucrative booty led pirates to a new business opportunity: their own secret smuggling networks.
While Ubisoft Forward the skull and bones Team revealed a little more about these networks that won’t be revealed to you until you’ve earned the right to know. To achieve this, you must increase your infamy and eventually unlock your very own pirate lair – known as The Helm – which will become the base of your smuggling operations. Here you can craft high-value goods like rum and opium before selling them to those with the deepest pockets. From here you also have more leeway to choose your own contracts instead of being at the mercy of other pirate kingpins.
The Ubisoft Forward presentation also revealed more about how to build and customize your ships. Each ship type caters to different types of playstyles, whether you’re looking for maneuverability, perf ormance, or cargo capacity, but each also brings specific benefits. For example, the Sambuk gives an advantage to players who use firearms, while the Brig – already a strong hitter – can deal even more damage when anchored. And that’s just the beginning – each ship can then be outfitted with different weapons, ammo, armour, furniture and cosmetic items, allowing players to tailor them for specific tasks and make them unique.
Arming your ship is about more than just stockpiling cannonballs; You have to think about what you want to achieve. Do you prefer to sink enemy ships and plunder their watery remains? Then you need penetrating ammo, which pierces armor and lets the water pour in, or fire ammo, which can wreak all sorts of havoc on a large wooden structure. However, if you want to disable ships for easy boarding, shredding ammo with their sails will make short work of it. And there’s a huge range of weapons to choose from, with various cannons, ballistae, mortars, rocket launchers and even torpedoes, each with unique damage types to leave your enemies guessing.
However, each weapon also has an armor type that can counter it; For example, you don’t want to use a flamethrower against a leather-clad ship, since leather is strong against fire damage. Learning to recognize what your enemies are using to protect themselves and responding with a weapon that can completely destroy them is one of many ways to survive at sea.
