Modern and historical stories are separated in Assassin’s Creed Infinity and an exit from the animus is probably no longer necessary.
With Assassin’s Creed Infinity, Ubisoft is working on a kind of hub under which future games will be combined.
The French developer had already announced three projects, Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe and Assassin’s Creed Invictus, to be developed under the guise of Infinity. The latter is only a pure multiplayer game.
The responsible project manager Marc-Alexis Côté hinted that there will be no modern setting in Assassin’s Creed Infinity, because he said:
“People who love just delving into the past will be able to jump right in there and never be interrupted or need to know who Desmond and Layla are.”
So maybe you won’t leave the animus at all. Côté said that Infinity could be the animus of the players.
“The way we tell the story will evolve over time. This is something we do for the long term, not the short term. But the abstraction we want to convey to people is that [Infinity] your animation is It’s your DNA explorer on your desktop. You are the main character of the story.”
In the future, an encyclopedia could be created in the Infinity hub, which would grow over time with entries from the individual games contained in the hub, as was further hinted at.
