Sandfall founder Guillaume Broche explains: “I was bored”-exit at Ubisoft led to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Guillaume Broche, founder of Sandfall Interactive, commented in an interview about his exit at Ubisoft. The reason: simple boredom.
After years at one of the world's biggest developer studios, Broche felt the desire to “do something new”.
This creative urge laid the foundation for the development of the ambitious role -playing game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which draws attention to itself with its unique aesthetics and a fresh game concept.
Broche explains that it was time for him to leave the leaked paths of the AAA productions and to set up a project, take the risks and pursue new creative approaches.
With his team in Montpellier, he now relies on innovation, emotional narrative and his very own style-a clear counter-model to the Ubisoft formula kit, what it sounds like between the lines.
Success proves him right! Clair obscur: Expedition 33 celebrates more than two million games sold and is the highest rated game of 2025.
