In case there is still someone who does not know them, UP spec game is an Australian company born with a clear purpose. After previous projects and the search for attractive game accessories for fans, it was the Microsoft console that led them to excellence. If the Xbox Series S was already a perfect console to take from place to place due to its size, what would it be like to be able to play with it practically portable? Well, that’s the idea that crossed the minds of these entrepreneurs, and of course they succeeded.
xScreen is a fantastic idea, executed in the best possible way, and means we only have to worry about carrying a controller and the power cable with our S series. Thanks to UPspec Gaming, I had the opportunity to test xScreen for the first time, as well as the rest of the accessories that we can acquire with it. I have already spent a few hours playing with this screen, and I can tell you that the sensations are unbeatable. Before going fully into the analysis, I remind you that you also have an interview with Andrew Upson, co-founder of UPspec, on our site. And without further ado, let’s go!
Quality and sensations at first sight
This is what usually happens when we buy a product with these characteristics. Personally, I tend to pay attention to every detail, and I’m not just talking about the product itself. And that’s because for me, the packaging is still just as important. After opening the cardboard packaging, the surprise (for good) was capital in terms of qualities. I was expecting something nicely finished, but even the xScreen case itself has a pretty high perceived quality. Removing the outer cover, you’re left with a fairly tough and well-padded box inside. Bonded caps properly protect each display surfaceincluding USB and HDMI connections.
In addition to the screen, which includes a protective plastic bag, the box includes other two additional interchangeable tabs
Finally, and as an almost obligatory option, we have the briefcase to carry our xScreen next to the console. Its price is $59.99, and yes, it is a significant sum at the price that the screen already has. However, thinking about the use we will give to the xScreen, I think that will be more than justified by the comfort and protection it offers. Again, the case materials maintain an optimal level of quality, with a reinforced interior and snug-fitting console and screen compartments. In addition to a small mesh with velcro on the lid, it has another compartment where to place the remote control, to which is added a velcro strip to hold it. Ultimately, A high quality finish in all aspects.
screen positioning
UPspec Gaming has created a screen that, when attached to our Xbox Series S, is reminiscent of what a kind of portable PC would be like. Normally, we saw on their social networks how this was the most recurring way in which she had shown herself, but it is not the only one. This, yes, in the end it is still the most comfortable, since the game console rests on its own base, taking advantage of the 4 points it has. This way you open the screen like a laptop, press the power button and play.
However, it may also be interesting for some users to use the two additional brackets (optional) to put the console inside a more vertical and elevated plane. This is because the screen itself has a 180 degree opening, thus offering greater freedom of use. Arranged in this way, the fan grille is placed in front of the player, and despite the fact that it dissipates the heat towards us, I did not notice any type of discomfort during the games.
Setting
Now, is there any type of configuration needed before playing? The short answer is yes, but it won’t be anything complex. xScreen includes a very complete manual, in English, yes, but it includes images as a guide. Basically, it’s because UPspec recommends enabling HDMI-CEC, an option that can be found in the console’s configuration menu, then in “TV”. This option prevents the console from accidentally turning on when the screen is closed. Too we can turn it off by pressing the “on/off” button on the xScreen
As for the rest of the buttons included in xScreen, they are also very easy to use. In addition to the on/off button, we will have a back button, one to activate the volume, another to calibrate the brightness, and a last one for the complete menu. The main ones will be brightness and volume, it will be enough to press one of them and the bar will appear on the screen. At that time the volume button will become the one to raise, and the brightness button to lower, the same happens with this other one. As for menuit is useful for stepping through all the specs on screen, as well as calibrating other parameters, such as the ECO mode or contrast among others.
Performance
After devoting several hours of use to it, the moment of truth arrives, what is the performance of the xScreen? From UPspec Gaming, we were promised a 11.6″ screenwith a resolution of 1080p and 60hz. Well, I can confirm from my own experience that absolutely everything has been accomplished. I have said it before, that in terms of materials it is a “premium” product, and it really is in all its sections.
In my case, as soon as I turned the screen on, it came out defaulted to 720p, but nothing I couldn’t quickly fix in the console settings menu. The rest, as you can imagine, was a most satisfying experience. I’ve played several video games of different genres, some where those 60fps are vital and some not so much. Among these titles, I tested Infinite Halo, Assetto Corsa Competition and Forza Horizon 5examples in which mastery is practically mandatory, and I had no problem. Of course, due to the small size and depending on the games, such as war zonewe will miss a few more centimeters to better appreciate the details or the enemies in the distance.
With games like octopath traveler I had it very clear, this screen is perfect. JRPG-style video games are extremely enjoyable, or management titles like Two Points Hospital, which perfectly match the portability of this console. Moreover, an element that raised so many doubts in me, sound, has more than disappeared. The effects, the music, even the use of any application like YouTube or Twitch make it a real pleasure. Ultimately, its versatility makes it an ideal accessory for any use or play any video game.
Is this xScreen worth it?
Since UPspec Gaming’s announcement, I think we can all agree that their xScreen has made a name for itself in the Xbox accessory market. The idea is revolutionary, and it was seen from the start. The Xbox Series S is a huge console, and as soon as you pick it up it gives that feeling of portability due to its small size. From UPspec they were able to give this portability an extra edge by making a screen that fits the console perfectly.. In this way we will only need the power cable and the controller to play.
The quality of its materials surprised me for good. I did not expect a bad product, far from it, but the attention to detail and finishing is extremely high. As I already said during the analysis, we are talking about a premium product. As such, it has to be said that it’s not exactly cheap, since the screen already costs $249.99. In my opinion, I think it’s worth it, since in addition I enjoyed the promised performance, 1080p and 60fps.
On the other hand, optional accessories maintain this quality, but their price remains high. Personally, I don’t consider them necessary, but I would recommend buying the case to transport the console with the screen and controller. It will be very useful for users who possibly carry the console here and there, while keeping it very well protected. Otherwise, xScreen It is a product more than recommendedwhich works flawlessly and maintains a premium feel at all times.
