If you thought everything was invented in the FPS genre, I must tell you that there is still a lot of material to cut, a clear example of this is Metal: Hellsinger, a classic title with the most common and proven mechanics of the kind that comes to bring totally innovative elements that, despite being disparate, combine in a more than interesting way.
In Xbox Generation we had the opportunity to test a pre-release version of the title on PC where we had access to two levels of the game, a production that, although it still has some details to polish, has a lot of potential for his exit.
A First Look at Metal: Hellsinger
Those who had a good time in the to restart of Doom from 2016, you will surely feel at home in this game as soon as you start it. This is not only due to the general aesthetics of the title but also to the controls that, at first, will allow us to cut some infernal creatures called “Puppets” with a sword and shoot with crazy power using of a shotgun with enough Devil trim. Cry and other weapons like the beloved double revolvers.
As I mentioned above, while everything makes the game look like another FPS, the story changes when you pay attention to a constantly moving indicator next to your crosshairs. And it is that, if we combine the hits with the rhythm of the music (which is reflected in this bar), you will cause additional damage, with various rewards that allow you to increase the damage meter in large quantities. On top of that, you’ll have another advantage, and that is that the background music (fundamental in this production) will also vary, adding other instruments and even the vocal tracks themselves, which is a complete blast.
Story-wise, the game tells us the story of a gunslinger from hell, with fallen angel wings, and his partner, who narrates the story in voiceover, and who has the interpretation by the already well-known Troy Baker, who He was able to lend his voice to several well-known characters from the world of video games, including Talion from the Shadows of Mordor saga.
The music of the game is one of its main features, so it is perfectly well done with the purest metal rhythms in different variants and with big names already confirmed as artists from bands like Arch Enemy, Trivium and System of a Down among many others who will reach the starting game.
The title highlights the Unity engine, pushing it to the limit of its capabilities so that the graphics have nothing to envy to other similar big productions. Not having accessed a console version, I really don’t know how much this aspect will vary between platforms, mainly the latest generation, but I estimate that the difference will not be that big.
The development of The Outsiders is supposedly coming in 2022 and I think if they manage to tweak the ordering system a bit more, which sometimes feels a bit imprecise, mainly in auctions, Metal: Hellsinger can become the one of the great releases of the year, and one that fans of this genre and, mainly of the music that accompanies it, shouldn’t miss. There we will give our final verdict when the title sees the light of day.
