In Bastards of the Voidyou played as one of an endless series of prisoners, each with their own characteristics, but otherwise identical. In Wild bastardsyou choose from a gang of 13 unique outlaws, each with their own voice, their own place in the gang, their own relationships with the others, and – most importantly – a very different playstyle.
Hopalong is a gliding lizardman who wields a strangler. He requires a stealthy, close-range playstyle. While he is very powerful against small groups of tough enemies, he can be quickly overwhelmed by numerous enemies.
Smoky, on the other hand, is a cook who has been consumed by his cooking fires. He can now shoot flames from his fingertips, setting enemies and the surrounding area on fire. By creating walls of flame, he can easily deal with swarming enemies like Kyotes, but has trouble with enemies that can’t be directed to the kill zones, like the teleporting Assassins or the burrowing Rattlers.
Which Outlaw you choose, which planet you beam him to, and which Outlaws you bring together before the showdown will play a big role in your success. You’ll have to juggle Outlaw fatigue, injuries, relationships, and matches against the enemies you’re likely to face. Just like in Bastards of the Void, Wild bastards requires strategic thinking as well as shooting skills. But now you have to reboot your thinking with a whole new set of concerns.
In Bastards of the Voidyou piloted your small capsule through a hostile nebula, deciding which abandoned ship to enter and which one to fly past. In Wild bastardsyour gang flies around the galaxy, choosing which planets to visit and which to avoid. Once on the planet, you split your outlaws into groups and ride from place to place, collecting loot, making the most of the opportunities on the planet, and avoiding the patrolling guards and critters where you can.
Each planet presents you with new challenges and opportunities. Sierra planets are mountainous and offer wide-open views, but snowbanks can hinder your movement around the planet and during a showdown. Don’t get stuck in the snow when one of the princes pursuing you arrives, or you could be thrown into a battle where the odds are truly against you!
Hostile worlds, on the other hand, have low gravity, so you can easily jump onto the terrain to gain a height advantage. But be careful of Yellowbellies, which can shoot right through the atmospheric domes common here.
No matter what world, once you enter a first-person showdown, you will experience the same intense shooter action as in Bastards of the Void
We haven’t even mentioned the mods you can equip your outlaws with, the aces that give permanent buffs to every member of the gang, the procedural campaign, or the custom challenges that unlock once you complete the campaign. Yes, there’s a lot more to do, strategize, and manage in Wild bastards!
