DOOM Eternal Ancient Gods 2 review for Xbox Series X
We started the week with the analysis of the game I finished with the previous week. DOOM Eternal Ancient Gods 2 released a few days ago and brings us the end of the cycle of this epic epic. Well, while it’s not common in the saga, this time around the lore and narrative carried some weight and managed to add the right seasoning to the original 2020 dish. Without further ado, let’s talk about the latest work of Identification software Yes Bethesda Softworks.
The climax that never ends
Ancient Gods part 2 puts us behind the events of the first DLC. Just as the events ended, our Doom Slayer continues his mission to uncover the truth and seal the gates of Hell forever (if possible). If you’ve made it this far, I’m guessing you’ve played both the base campaign and the previous DLC, so, without too much spoiler; rather a teaser, I’m going to tell you that the only way to stop the apocalypse and banish demons is to face off against the lord of hell himself. The bar is therefore high.
For this new chapter, not too long, we will travel through different worlds, as in previous campaigns. The good thing about this design decision is the variety of biomes. Well, from the Maykr world to Earth; not to mention Hell itself, each biome has its own characteristics and differences. It’s refreshing to be able to vary the landscape
As soon as we select a new game we can read description: “DOOM Eternal, but with more demons because it’s a DLC”. A direct, sincere and sententious sentence where they exist. The muso genre has finally gotten serious and DOOM Eternal brings youAn astonishing number of enemies on the screen to take the violence to new heights. It must be said that unlike the Japanese genre, these demons that surround us do not seem faithful, but they attack our protagonist fiercely and constantly until we beat them, or they beat us.
As you will remember from the base game, every demon of considerable size has certain weak points which we must take advantage of to annihilate them before they wreak havoc on us. To all this is added that being the second DLC, as we saw in the first, the intensity of the game maintains the climax of the end of the base campaign. Therefore, we can find many unpleasant surprises such as: two stalkers accompanied by an enemy who empowers them, or demons of great tonnage with armor that must be destroyed before generating damage, accompanied in turn by other powerful demons. The whole DLC looks like a final boss. The intensity is to applaud.
New weapons, new combos
Fortunately, we have the strange new weapon, not all were going to be new demons with unexpected upgrades.
This hammer comes with mandatory challenges. Well, in order to move forward we will have to face some challenges where we will be rewarded with damage buffs or an extended hammer stun time. These challenges al so have a second level of difficulty which will bring us various aesthetic rewards, if we decide to take the challenge. However, these level two challenges are no small feat, and the game itself warns us to temper our nerves before facing the whirlwind of high-level demons and on-screen violence. But if we’ve made it this far, it won’t be to flatten us out now, or yes?
More history and a lot of underlying knowledge
At the narrative level, we are coming back to the same formula as so far. Some video sequences to put us in situation. The occasional philosophical monologue of the enemy and many transmissions the doom slayer doesn’t respond to, it just listens. Although we always have the notes scattered on the maps to better know the traditions and the places we visit. DOOM is an action-based saga, as adding a little story won’t interrupt the main focus, either. However, the closing of the cycle managed to surprise me, entertain me and leave me satisfied with the presented final. I won’t say more, so better play it and see it for yourself.
Unfortunately, although the cutscenes extend the duration, we are facing a dlc of a few hours, depending on our personal abilities. We could say that if you want to enjoy looping play every time playing on a higher difficulty, you are hours and hours ahead of DOOM. However, If you come just to complete the story, you probably know little about it. Although the good is short, twice as good, right?
Finally, DOOM Eternal Ancient Gods 2 is a fantastic finishing touch for a reboot as well as this DOOM. Technically, we are faced with a visual and playable marvel, in addition to offering a very striking and varied artistic section. Although the campaign is rather short-lived, it all depends on whether we will insert the collectibles and the hellish hardships that the game offers. If you are only looking to see the end of the cycle, you can always expect a reduction. I can only invite you to read the analysis of DOOM Eternal and Ancient Gods Part 1.
