Microsoft announced a Price increase of 5,000 yen (about 35 $) from the manufacturer’s recommended retail price, for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles in Japan. This increase will come into effect on February 17. The Xbox Series X will drop from a suggested retail price of 54,978 yen to 59,978 yen, and the Xbox Series S will drop from 32,278 yen to 37,978 yen.
The increase in hardware prices was already suggested a few months ago. Those in Redmond had made a major effort to keep the price low due to lack of material in stores. The stability of the supply and the arrival of a phase of product maturity mean that the price cannot be maintained any longer. Sony has already raised its prices a few months ago citing an increase in the price of materials. It remains to be seen if this increase concerns only the Japanese country, or is it the general increase that we are talking about.
In a statement, Microsoft Japan said, “After carefully assessing the state of the market in Japan, we have decided to change the suggested retail price of Xbox consoles in the country. We regularly assess the impact of local prices in order to maintain reasonable consistency between regions. This price revision impacts our customers and was a difficult decision to make, but going forward, we will continue to deliver the best Xbox experience our customers have come to expect.”
Whether it’s a global boost or not, we recommend getting an Xbox console now, if you’re planning on it.
