If we look at the latest Sega commercials, we will notice that none of them are called Yakuza. This is due to the fact the saga has abandoned this name and will be called “like a dragon” in the West. the new name used in Japan since the original game and was first seen in the West with the release of Yakuza: like a dragon.
It was decided to change the name of the title outside of Japan to make it more appealing to Western audiences, something similar to what happened with resident Evilcalled Biological hazard in Japanese territory. Now that the saga enjoys a very good reception all over the world and gradually stop telling yakuza stories, RGG Studio and Sega decided to rename the saga to match the Japanese name.
Although the change is quite apparent after the latest announcements, Digital trends contacted Sega to directly ask if it was an official rebrand, to which they responded as follows: “We can confirm that the series will be known as “like a dragonnow to align more with the Japanese name.”
