It's been 11 years since it hit the market and it's a design I'm still falling in love with.

This is one of my favorite Apple designs, it's 11 years old and has always been misunderstood

Apple usually surprises with the design of its devices, which we have seen on several occasions. However, 11 years ago the company launched something completely unique which amazed me. It was a computer widely criticized precisely for its design, but for me it is one of the best of all time.

This bold and particular design corresponded to the Mac Pro from 2013. For the first time, the Mac Pro ceased to be a tower and became a kind of shiny black cylinder, which many nicknamed “trash”. However, it must be recognized that a computer like this has never been seen and something similar will probably never be seen again.

The 2013 Mac Pro had a unique design

Presented at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2013, The Mac Pro has radically changed its design. Apple said the device represents “our vision for the future of the professional computer; we reinvented it from the ground up. Nothing like this has ever been seen.” And they weren't lying.

The cylinder-shaped design was something completely new, just like the internal arrangement of the different components. All parts of the Mac Pro were mounted around a central heat-dissipation core, cooled by a single fan that drew air from the base upwards.

Mac Pro from 2013

I think it's one of Apple's most beautiful designs, too bad it's not functional

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — October 22, 2013 — Apple has redefined professional computing with the launch of the new Mac Pro. Designed around an innovative unified thermal core, the Mac Pro is equipped with the latest Intel Xeon processors with up to 12 cores, including two high-end ones. Powerful GPUs, six Thunderbolt 2 ports, PCIe-based flash storage, and ultra-fast ECC memory.

Apple assured that this Mac Pro offered the double the power of the previous generationthanks to its Intel Xeon processor and AMD FirePro GPU, occupying only one eighth in volume. However, the design had a serious problem: the expansion units had to be connected via Thunderbolt 2 ports, as it did not have internal expansion slots.

This brought its main target audience, the more professional users could not easily extend the devicewhich ended up condemning the product. For this reason, Apple recognized that the design was not the most suitable and completely changed it years later, returning to the current tower-shaped design for the Mac Pro.

Despite this, I believe that the The problem was not in the design itself.which I find beautiful, but for having used it on the wrong computer. Professionals don't need a pretty computer, they need a practical computer, and this design doesn't meet those needs.

And Apple would have used this design, even if it was smaller, in a Mac miniI have no doubt he would have succeeded. It could even have influenced the current design of the Mac mini. The problem was limiting expansion opportunities for professionals, who often need it over time.
