7 apps to create fun ‘deepfakes’ on Android

They are understood by wrong wrong such as video manipulations using neural networks to generate photorealistic videos where embeds a person’s face or voice in a video where it was not. It’s a complex process, but there are more and more apps that let you do something similar from your mobile.

The result is not so much a photorealistic video with your face, but rather a personalized GIF animation in which you are the protagonist. Of course, after generating your video, you can share it with other apps.

wombo

We end with an app that caused a sensation: Wombo, the app that transforms your selfies into impressive lip-sync performances. In other words, you upload a photo, choose a song and receive a video of this person singing.

Wombo’s results are pretty good and even when they’re not, laughs are guaranteed. The app includes various popular songs to choose from, although some of them require a premium subscription.

Deep Nostalgia by MyHeritage

Another deep forgery app that has become very fashionable is Deep Nostalgia, which is an included feature in the official MyHeritage appa site where you can explore your family tree.

This time you don’t become another person, sing or perform animated GIFs, but the goal is turn a photo into a short video with natural movements such as winks, smiles and light movements.

FacePlay is a new application to create deepfakes that reminds us a lot of Zao. The big difference is that we can easily download and use this one, since it is on Google Play. The quality of the resulting videos is very good.

Just take a picture and choose of which video fragment will you be the protagonist?, although the most difficult will be to dodge the advertisements and the invitations to subscribe to a subscription. If you manage to keep them at bay – and be patient – you’re guaranteed to have an entertaining time.
