The company’s next goal is to leave its name in the annals of motorsport history, with the fastest electric sedan in the world.
The new Xiaomi SU7 Ultra was born with the aim of breaking the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit record in its category; It will not be easy, knowing that it is a historic stretch that requires much more than raw power, in which the high weight of the batteries and the shape of the sedan play against it. Some YouTube channels specializing in the Nürburgring, such as statesidesupercars, have already published videos in which the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra appears attacking the winding track and the height variations of the Nürburgring, which has led Formula 1 and other competitions to abandon it for safety reasons. In the videos, the Xiaomi car appears fast and stable, and although the driver sometimes has to make small corrections, at no point does it seem like he is about to lose control.
It is this variety of curves that makes this circuit so attractive to car manufacturers, who usually test their new models there before their official presentation, as evidenced by the fact that several of the vehicles appearing in the videos they always wear camouflage. There is also an unofficial competition between brands to get the best timed times on a course of just over 20 kilometers, and this is where Xiaomi intends to strike.
To achieve this, he created an Ultra version of the Xiaomi SU7, with several modifications to make it faster and optimized for the circuit. The 1,548 horsepower that the three electric motors are capable of applying to the four wheels stand out; this translates into an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 1.97 seconds, even if the 0 to 200 km/h in 5.96 seconds
The aerodynamic changes are evident in the videos, including the huge rear diffuser that effectively replaces the bumper; up front, a front “splitter” to divide the air and small spoilers to move it around the body of the car. But if we’re talking spoilers, the rear one is undoubtedly the biggest.
A striking detail is the presence of a safety cage inside, a common installation among enthusiasts and mandatory in racing competitions, but it is not clear if it will be included with the road version.
Because yes, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra can be purchased at dealerships, with two versions, one for the circuit and another for the street; although both are so extreme that drivers will have to pass an “exam” before unleashing the full power of the car.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun visited the Nürburgring to support the team behind this project. Surprisingly, he was somewhat modest, stating that he knew the Xiaomi SU7 might not break the record, but he would accept any result if he knew the equipment was doing its best.
“As long as we start catching up, we will be on our way to victory,” he said, showing that he knows Xiaomi has only been in the business for a short time to aim so high.
