Apple prepares a new home device with a large screen, Apple Intelligence and much more
For many months we have known that Apple is preparing a device designed for smart home control which will include a large screen and a new operating system, what we traditionally call “HomePod with screen”. But now Mark Gurman has just revealed virtually all the details of a device he’s dubbed “HomePod,” even though that doesn’t necessarily have to be the final name.
Apple offers certain devices that can act as a “Hub” in the home, such as the HomePod or the Apple TV. But the company wants to go further with your own device with a screen
Apple’s next AI-powered smart home device:
– Focus is on Siri, communication and home control
– Runs Safari, Music, Notes and several other Apple apps, but no App Store.
– The device is touchscreen, but will mainly be controlled by voice via the new App Intents from Apple Intelligence…-Mark Gurman (@markgurman) November 12, 2024
Everything we know about the “HomePad”
The name “HomePad” makes a lot of sense given that it is a a sort of home-focused iPad
This new Apple device focused on Siri, communication and home control, is designed to run several key apps such as Safari, Music, FaceTime and Notes, although it does not have access to the App Store. The device, similar in size to two iPhones placed together and featuring a 6 inch screenwill be primarily voice controlled using the App Intents feature of Apple Intelligence
The device integrates speakers, a FaceTime camera and a batteryand Apple is already developing accessories such as speaker stands for different places in the home, from desks and kitchen tables to nightstands, and even wall mounts.
The home screen is customizable with classic Apple widgets and home controlsand will provide access to security cameras and smart doorbells, receive security alerts, and use a video and audio intercom feature, ideal for homes with multiple Apple devices. Apple, as usual, is also committed to the security of the device and will ensure that everything works privately.
In the future, Apple plans to release a high-end version with a robotic limb and advanced personality based on artificial intelligence. Although this model is still in development, Apple aims to make it a true artificial intelligence assistant at home or in the workplace, offering advanced features and a personalized user experience.
As for price, Apple should offer something competitive. This has already happened with the price of the HomePod mini, which has remained close to its main competitors. In this case, Amazon offers the Echo Hub which costs $150 and Google offers the Nest Hub Max which costs $230. And given that the device may be a slightly smaller, more refined version of the iPad mini, hopefully the price will be contained. The possible release date would be March 2025there is therefore not much left to see this new proposal from Apple.
