It’s been a month and a half since the Netflix war with shared accounts officially started in Europe. The platform allows you to continue doing this, while setting up additional payment profiles. With the idea that no one outside of who has been configured as the “primary residence” can see the contentthe platform has now started sending new reviews.
They anticipate something that we already really knew, and that is that there will be room to see the content if we travel temporarily. However, they limit the reproduction of content in these cases to two weeks.
A code that gives access… but only for 14 days
In the previous image you can see the aforementioned notice that we warned is starting to appear in those who continue to share account with the “traditional” method. That is, not with the new additional payment profiles, but using a single account and the same password as the main household.
As you can see, Netflix offers the possibility of redeem a code that will allow out-of-home use for two weeks. This code will be received by SMS or email by the account owner, and after entering it, this time limit will begin. The question is what will happen next.
For now Netflix leaves too many questions unanswered. Logic tells us that if they detect that the account is still being used away from home after using this temporary code, they could block access. At some point, we can even fear that there is a temporary or permanent blocking of the Netflix account. However, there is no evidence to back it up and on Netflix they didn’t say that mouth was mine either.
With things being like this, what is clear is that the platform knows how to fix the initial issues that this strategy has raised and already detect these incorrect connections
If the two additional weeks they offer for possible trips are insufficient, Netflix offers another alternative, which is to set a new parent location. In this case, the new location will be considered the “primary residence”, but will leave the old one as an external connection, so in the end they will still prevent it from being used as a shared account.
